私は自然と人間の関係を探求し、その関係性を通して、人間が正しいと信じる価値判断がいかに巨大な自然の前にあっては、取るに足らないことであり、可変的なものであるかを提示する。
《The white shaded backyard》連作は、人間の目的によってつくられ、使われた末に、捨てられた空間である。しかし、それはただ打ち捨てられた場所ではなく、再び本来の自然へと変化し、生成の場である。このような巨大な自然の雄大さを見つめながら、現在を生きる私たちの存在価値が果たして真実なのかの問いが生まれる。一方でイメージの中の空間は傷つき、忘れられた心の場所であり、現実を生きる私自身が癒された場所である。
《PL.A.NET》連作は、美しい宇宙空間に存在する惑星のように見える。しかし、もう少し近づいて詳しく見てみると、それは惑星ではない何かであることに気づく。美しく見えた「審美」としての作品は、やがて川の上に浮かぶ浮遊物、土壌に残る油の跡、酸化した干潟、廃水といった「醜美」へと変貌する。人間理性の判断が、そして人間が「正しい」と考える価値判断がいかにも可変的であるかを、美しさとそうでないものを絡ませて表す。
본인은 자연과 인간의 관계를 탐구하며 그 관계를 통해 인간이 옳다고 생각하는 가치판단이 거대한 자연 앞에 얼마나 보잘 것 없고 가변적인 것인지를 보여주고 있다.
《The white shaded backyard》연작은 인간이 목적을 가지고 만들어 사용하다 버려진 공간이다.하지만 단순히 버려진 공간이 아니라 다시 본래의 자연으로 변화, 생성되는 공간이다. 이런 거대한 자연의 웅장함을 바라보며 현재를 살아가고 있는 우리에 삶의 가치가 과연 진실한가에 대한 물음이며, 한편으로 이미지 속 공간은 상처받고 잊혀져 버린 마음 속 공간이며 현실에서 살아가는 본인이 상처를 위로 받은 공간들이다.
《PL.A.NET》연작은 아름다운 우주 공간에 존재하는 행성처럼 보인다. 그러나 조금 더 가까이 자세히 들여다보면 이것이 행성이 아닌 무엇임을 발견하게 된다. 아름답게 보였던 ‘심미’로서 작품은 이내 강물 위에 떠있는 부유물, 토양 위에 남아있는 기름자국, 산화된 갯벌, 폐수 등으로 ‘추미’로 변모한다. 인간 이성의 판단이, 그리고 인간이 옳다고 생각하는 가치판단이 얼마나 가변적인 것인지 아름다움과 그렇지 않음을 뒤엉켜 놓으면서 보여주고 있다.
